Farm Property and Land£ 275,000Trade
he land at Marymill was acquired by the sellers in the mid 1990s, as an outlying block which is additional to their main farming unit. As such it has been farmed as part of a larger farming business. Cropping has therefore been kept simple, for ease of management, and has typically included spring barley, grown for malting and ware potatoes. Yields of spring barley are typically reported as 2.5-2.75 tonnes per acre (90 units nitrogen per acre). Carrots and onions have also been grown in the past.
The land ranges in height from 17 m to 30 m (55' to 100') above sea level. It is classified by the James Hutton Institute as being Class 2 and 3(1). It is therefore capable of growing a good range of productive crops. Oil seed rape has not been grown.
Given its location next to Marykirk, particularly field 3, there may be some long term development potential, subject to obtaining any necessary planning consents.
There is an agreement in place with Aberdeenshire Council (South) to not crop 0.55 ha in field 3 adjacent to the road, to help alleviate flooding from the burn, known as the Burn of Balmaleedy, onto the road. Typically the land is used for greening.
