Lots of people would call our little goats "Pygmies" but they are actually the much rarer ( and we think prettier) Nigerian Dwarfs.
They are small goats and when full grown their backs just about come up to the knees of an average size person . But Nigerians are slimmer and more elegant than their pygmy cousins with narrower faces and longer necks. In fact they are just like you imagine a typical dairy goat would look , but smaller. SO..... if you have always wanted goats but thought you didn't have the space maybe Nigerian Dwarfs are the ones for you?
You don't need rolling acres to keep a couple of Nigis (and yes, it needs to be at least two, goats are herd animals and are very sad and lonely on their own) . They need a shed or something similar to sleep in and to shelter from the rain, a securely fenced exercise area and plenty of hay. Although they appreciate space to graze and browse on weeds and hedges, lots of space is not really necessary and many of the happiest and best-loved goats we know live in quite modest back gardens.
We have been breeding goats for 23 years now and have had some lovely kids born this year. Nero and Nerissa
are the last ones of the season and have not yet been shown to any potential buyers so if you want to start your venture into mini-goat keeping this year, this is your last chance!
They are not twins . Nero (boy) was born on 12th May and Nerissa (girl) on 21st May but they have the same dad and live in adjacent pens so they have always played together and would be heartbroken if they were separated.
Nero is pure Nigerian Dwarf but Nerissa is 1/8 Anglo Nubian which might mean she has
ever-so-slightly longer legs but also gives her beautiful colouring, a super shiny coat
and the potential to be a great milker if her new owner wants to breed her in the future.
Before you bring any goats onto your property you need a CPH number from the Rural Payments Agency. But this is free and just involves a phone call. No awkward questions or inspection etc!
Nero and Nerissa will be ready to leave home around the middle of September. Before then Nero will have been castrated under anaesthetic by our wonderful vet, they will both be ear-tagged as required by Defra, they will have had coccidiosis prevention treatment, and similar treatment against internal and external parasites and they will have been vaccinated against tetanus, enterotoxaemia, and various clostridial diseases. We will be happy to show you how to trim their hooves (not difficult!) and, of course, we will always be here to answer your questions and give all the advice we can.
Our female kids cost £225 and the boys are £ 175 so Nero and Nerissa will be £400
    for the pair.
If you would like to come and see these beautiful babies you are very welcome. We are 10 miles north of Boston in Lincolnshire. Just let me know when you would like to come and I'll be sure the kettles on!
However, based on past experience I think these last babes will be reserved quite quickly SO if you are sure you want them the best thing would be to email quickly and reserve that way.
Either way , a £50 (non-refundable) deposit will hold them for you until they are old enough to leave home.
If you have any questions at all please do not hesitate to get in touch.
