Are you mobile friendly
Mobile Friendly Websites - how much traffic you could lose.
As of April 21st 2015 Google will change how they rank websites when being viewed on a mobile device. This means that if a customer searched online for tractors in (insert your area) on a desktop computer you may pop up as number 1 but if you do not have a mobile responsive website and the same customer searches from their mobile phone you could possibly drop down the rankings and not be seen. Potential customers who can't find you will go elsewhere. This is because Google now knows that your website is not best suited to a mobile device and google strive to provide the best service for users, so they want to show customers the most relevant, high quality search results optimised for the device they are searching on. sounds simple right?
What it means for dealers:
For machinery and agriculture dealers this is something to definitely take note of, especially for those selling and advertising stock online and it is not something you have in place already. Even if your business only receives a small amount of traffic from mobile devices, having a mobile friendly device is a long term investment even if it doesn't affect your short term traffic. Until the algorithm is in place, there is no definitive way to show how much it will affect websites. Companies with their eye on the SEO side of the business will know how important google rankings can be and your customers have to be able to find you organically regardless of what device they are searching from. Farmingadsco.uk has realised this and has a massive 56% of searches perfomed on either a mobile or tablet.
What it means for you:
As stated earlier if your customers cannot find you organically from searching this will have a detrimental effect, at the same time if somebody searching on a mobile device found your website and could not use it with ease or found it difficult to browse or navigate they will be inclined to drop off and leave the website possibly never to return!
First impressions count, especially in the competitive world of the web. put yourself as a customer and think what if i searched online for a product on a mobile device and came across two websites. one website did not fit the screen, website navigation was difficult, instead of thumb scrolling there was a scroll bar in the corner and every time you went to scroll down you accidentally hit the wrong button and a new search started. You would be less inclined to think yes this is the company for me, take all my money please. alternatively the second website was responsive, fits the mobile phone screen, you could scroll with your thumb, search buttons were prominent and you could easily find what you were looking for. The majority of people would stay and browse the second website as it looks more professional and you can actually use the website. people get bored quickly looking over websites in general so they will not stick around to take five minutes to look for a product on one website when it takes 30 seconds on another.
